Potchefstroom University
Provides info on faculties, student activities, conferences and societies. The academic calendar is online and there's a subject-guided gateway to info on the World Wide Web.

Rand Afrikaans University (RAU)
The site offers info on the different faculties and the Alumni Association. You can contact both staff and students by e-mail and there are student home pages. Links have been categorised by topic and there's help in navigating the WWW.

Rhodes University
Some of the departments have detailed pages on their activities. Provides the e-mail addresses of staff and students, as well as info on conferences and student societies. A great feature is the library catalogue, which can be accessed via a telnet application.

Stellenbosch University
A well-designed and informative site with sections on academic and student life. There's a bulletin board and space for small ads. The library catalogue can be accessed via telnet. There's also a handy ftp site with plenty of software.

University of Cape Town
This impressive site provides extensive info on academic departments, conferences and student organisations. A careers section offers advice on things like writing a CV and handling job interviews. The library catalogue isn't online, but there are links to the catalogues of other universities. You can also browse through the titles published by the UCT Press. Many of the academic department have large, informative sites of their own.

University of Durban-Westville
Not much here at the moment, just a few starting points for surfing the web.

University of Fort Hare - Dept of Applied Mathematics
While this page is still under construction, it provides e-mail addresses, contact telephone numbers and downloadable software.

University of Natal
The university's two campuses have similiar sites, with a link between them. Many of the departments offers extensive information on the courses offered. The publications Focus and NU Info are available online. There's also a search facility.

University of the Orange Free State
A few of the departments have their own pages, but at this stage the site is still quite small. It does offer links to a number of search engines.

University of Port Elizabeth
The much-improved site offers a section on community projects and a campus tour, as well as departmental information and the academic almanac. The e-mail address is searchable and a remote access service is available for UPE users.

University of Pretoria
This well-designed site offers the usual info, as well as student pages and a section dealing with the the university' role in community services. The library catalogue can be accessed via telnet.

University of South Africa (UNISA)
UNISA has recently introduced Students Online (SOL). Students are able to check whether assignments have been received and marked, their results and if there's any new tutorial material. The system is still under construction, but looks like a boon to distance education. The library catalogue is now also available online and students can check their loans and due dates. In addition, there's the usual departmental info and details about events and conferences. The site also has a comprehensive section on mailing lists, classified by subject.

University of Transkei
The convocation and alumni of the university, academic departments, the university management and Unitra Community Radio.

University of the Western Cape
This site is quite small at the moment, but the Botany Department is involved in a project to provide online resources to schools.

University of the Witwatersrand
As well as info on academic departments, research units and student and alumni activities, you can browse the titles of Wits University Press and order by e-mail. You can also connect to the library catalogue via telnet. Wits hosts an impressive mirror site where you can download software.

Cape Technikon
The site offers background information and it's admission requirements. It allows you to search for e-mail addresses. There's a section on upcoming conferences and info about the Bureau for Continuing Education.

Natal Technikon
Provides info on both the Durban and Pietermaritzburg campuses, as well as details on faculties and qualifications offered. It offers a handy alphabetical listing of SA web sites. A section on research projects has been added.

Peninsula Technikon
Information about the Technikon, its departments and research units, study at the institution and the community.

Port Elizabeth Technikon
This revamped site offers access to the library catalogue, as well as departmental information and lots of links. It also displays students' home pages. An added section deals with the institutional transformation process.

Technikon Free State
While this site is still under construction, it offers info on the different facilities and displays students' home pages.

Technikon Pretoria
A well-designed site offering plenty of info on the faculties, sport and student affairs.

Technikon South Africa
Offers quite extensive information on some departments, while others aren't online. Students can e-mail the library with queries and can also receive their results by e-mail. The online bulletin board seems well used. The student development section has links dealing with career guidance and academic support.
